Finding a verification code in the inbox

The code is almost always there. Here is where to look when it appears not to be.

A login that asks for a code sent by email is routine. What is also routine is the code appearing to be missing when it is not โ€” the message arrived, it is simply not in the inbox view.

Look here, in this order

  1. Junk or Spam. This is where most of them land.
  2. The search box โ€” search the platform name rather than reading down the list.
  3. Deleted Items. Some mailboxes come with rules that file or bin these automatically.
  4. The Other or Archive folder, if the mailbox separates them.

If it truly is not there

  • Request the code again and wait a full two minutes. Requesting repeatedly can suppress delivery.
  • Check the request went to the address you can actually read โ€” some accounts have more than one address on file.
  • Confirm the mailbox itself still accepts mail by sending it a message from any other address.

A code is single-use and short-lived. If you request several, only the newest one will work, so read the most recent message rather than the first one you find.

If the mailbox cannot receive mail at all, stop and raise it while your warranty window is open rather than working around it.
